A young maple tree was planted on the Almelund Threshing Show grounds Friday morning, July 27, in honor of Bob Ehlert, of Harris, the Chisago County Master Gardener who was declared dead recently by the U.S. government.

A man who was known for his sailing across the oceans, he was last seen more than a year ago in Panama.

Ehlert’s friend and fellow Master Gardener Donna Tatting handled the tree planting with help from Master Gardener Joy Oberg. The tree was delivered by Wayne Haslach, of Wayne’s Nursery and Garden Center in Stacy, who placed the maple in the ground next to the Master Gardener building and behind the old court house on the east side of the grounds.

Tatting said the next step is placing a marker, alongside of the tree, that will say, “In Memory of Bob Ehlert: Friend, Scholar and Adventurer.” Placement of the marker is anticipated prior to the threshing show in August.
