North Branch Area Public Schools is excited to start the 2014-15 school year, which will include phase one of a “1:1” device initiative. “Bridging D3” (BD3) is the evolution of D3 (Discovering Digital Devices), a “bring your own device” plan by the school district to introduce technology to the classroom instituted two years ago.
This school year, sixth, seventh, and 10th grade students will receive Chromebooks to use all school year. The district’s goal is to provide devices to additional grade levels in subsequent years until all students grades 5-12 possess a district-provided device.
Over the summer, BD3 teachers have been receiving intensive training to ensure not only that the transition to BD3 is a smooth one, but also that the devices are used to the fullest potential as a tool to enhance education.
At the end of August, a host of parent/student orientation meetings will take place to explain more about BD3 and to distribute the devices. Those meetings will be held at the North Branch High School Auditorium as follows:
Session #1: 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. — 6th graders with last names A – M.
Session #2: 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. — 6th graders with last names N – Z.
Session #3: 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. — 7th graders with last names A – M.
Session #4: 7:30 – 8:30 p.m — 7th graders with last names N – Z.
Session #5: 7 – 8 a.m. — 6th and 7th grade (make-up session).
Session #6: 5 – 6 p.m. — 10th graders with last names A – M.
Session #7: 6 – 7 p.m. — 10th graders with last names N – Z.
Session #8: 7 – 8 p.m. — 6th, 7th, and 10th grade (make-up session).
Aug. 27 (make up sessions)
Session #9: 7- 8 a.m. — 10th grade (make-up session).
Session #10: 6 – 8 p.m. — 10th grade at HS Open House-tentative.
Make-up times will be at the high school and middle school open house or during the first week of school.
