Loving Father, Grandfather

Richard Cooper of Rush City passed away on Nov. 13, 2014 at the age of 97.

Born Oct 24, 1917 in Minneapolis, MN, he was one of eight children of William Cooper and Alma Morton Cooper.

He was preceded in death by wife Olivia.

Survived by daughter Laura Moore; grandchildren Calvin, Jillian, Cassandra; great-granddaughter Stella; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was an avid sports fan and loved supporting his alma mater team, the Gophers. He too was a high school pitcher and would likely have been in the big leagues but was drafted instead in 1941 in WWII and spent four years fighting in the front lines as a tank gunner. After the war he attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with his Masters Degree in Art in 3-1/2 years. He taught art at Minnehaha Academy and several schools in MN and WI including classes for Native American children on Madeline Island in Lake Superior. He was a skilled artist and enjoyed painting religious, portraits and wild life. Many of his beautiful paintings hang in churches and private homes.

Funeral service Nov. 30 at 1:30 p.m. at Living Water Fellowship Church, Rush City, MN. Grave side burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Mpls., MN on Dec. 4th at 10:45 a.m. Reception to follow. Questions: Call Laura at 612-749-6451.
