Erick Ferngren of Rush City, formerly of Harris and Cottage Grove, passed away Friday, February 19, 2016 at his home in Rush City at the age of 79.

Erick Wayne Ferngren was born to Erick A. and Marie (Williams) Ferngren in French Lake, Minnesota on June 21, 1936. After graduating from high school, Erick served his country in the United States Navy from 1953 – 1957.

He worked for the United States Postal Service in St. Paul for 20 years before retiring. He enjoyed camping with his sons and wife. He also enjoyed deer hunting and fishing with his sons and friends. Erick had a knack for shooting the bull’s-eye. He enjoyed snowmobiling with family and friends and enjoyed many trips with Brian Witte.

In the last few years, Erick enjoyed collecting cell phones and the challenge of repairing them. He also enjoyed collecting old time razors, cameras and kitchen knives. Erick had a love of canes and was excited to start making his own canes. He had started collecting the parts and materials he needed but never got the time to do it. Erick enjoyed his pets Bridgette and Rosie and spending time on his computer shopping on Ebay. He loved playing the game of Solitaire on his computer. Erick was very proud of his gardens of flowers and vegetables. They all had to be to his perfection. His favorite time of summer was sitting on the deck with his best friend and watching the birds and listening to the flowing water in the pond.

He will be sadly missed by all. Erick had several nicknames for his wife through the years. “Kroker” in early years, “Mawsquaw” when they moved to Harris and Rush City, “Honey Bun” on a good day and “Carolann” if he was upset.

Erick is survived by his wife Carol Ferngren of Rush City; sons Tim Ferngren of Rush City, Tom (Roxanne) Ferngren of Mora, Dan (Michelle) Ferngren of Clearwater; daughter-in-law Gayle Ferngren of Grasston, step-son Brian (Jennifer) Witte of Rush City; many grandchildren; and a sister Florence Dabbs of St. Paul.

He was preceded in death by his parents Erick and Marie Ferngren; sons Robert and Scott Ferngren; grandson Kelly “Tank” Anderson; niece Debbie Weller; sister Irene Plummer; and brother Lawrence Thomas.

Pastor Tim Adams will officiate at Erick’s funeral service; 2 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2016 with a time of visitation two hours prior to the service at the Olson Chapel of Rush City.

A summer gathering in remembrance of Erick will be held around June 21; Erick’s birthday. Erick would have been 80 years old. All will be contacted.

Memorials are suggested to one of the several organizations that are working to eradicate Lung Cancer.
