Chisago County master gardeners gearing up for spring

New gardeners as well as those who have been gardening are already planning for the coming year. For those on our mailing list you will be happy to know that your packet of upcoming events will be sent to you mid-January. For those who are not on our mailing list, but wish to be, call Sue at the Extension Office, 651-277-0151.
In the packet will be a list of classes for our Spring Class Series. The first class is coming up fast, as Dianne Patras and Dave Smith will teach a class called “Berries 101.” They will describe the basics needed to plant, grow, sustain and harvest a good crop of raspberries, strawberries, black raspberries and blackberries. The class will be held on Feb. 14 at the North Branch Senior Center. There will be five other classes through April 25.
Also in the packet is our plant order form for 2017. We are basically offering the same bare root plants with minor changes in some selections. Again we will offer raspberries, black raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, asparagus, rhubarb, strawberries, and onion sets. For those who are new to ordering plants from us, you need to know that you can order plants until we are out, and you will receive a card telling you to pick up the order around April 29 at the Senior Center.
The packet has a list of upcoming events including our Garden Expo at the North Branch High School on March 4. We will continue to keep gardeners informed through the mail, news article, the website and word of mouth, which is one of the most successful vehicles. Again call Sue at 651-277-0151 and get on our mailing list so you can continue to be informed.
