NB boys tennis finishes with 7 wins

The North Branch boys tennis team played four matches last week, winning one.

The Vikings met Mora in a nonconference match on May 8, winning 7-0.

Winning in singles were No. 1 Bryant Meyer (6-3, 6-1), No. 2 Trenton Corbett (6-0, 6-2), No. 3 Thomas Wurdemann (6-3, 6-4) and No. 4 Yoobin Kim (6-0, 6-4). The winning doubles teams were No. 1 T.J. Reis and George Blackwell (7-5, 5-7, 10-5), No. 2 Hunter Newman and Gabe Zderad (6-2, 6-1) and No. 3 Josh Hindt and Tanner Wilmet (6-0, 6-2).

The Vikings lost to Chisago Lakes 5-2 on May 9. Corbett scored a win at No. 2 singles (6-3, 7-5), and at No. 2 doubles, Hindt and Wurdemann won 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.

The Vikings lost a closely fought match against Monticello 4-3 on May 11. Meyer won at No. 1 singles, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Hindt and Wurdemann won at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-3, and No. 3 Reis and Blackwell won 6-2, 6-3.

The Vikings lost 6-1 to Pine City on May 12. The lone winner was Corbett at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4.

The Vikings finished the regular season with a record of 7-12, a major improvement over last year’s campaign. They will open play in the sectional tournament on May 18 – the location and opponent had not yet been announced at press time.
