Work begins on NBAPS referendum projects

North Branch Area Public Schools staff met with representatives of the school district’s design firm, ATS&R, and construction manager, Kraus Anderson, May 30 to discuss next steps following the approval of all three ballot questions on May 23.
A spring election offers NBAPS the opportunity to be prepared to solicit bids for construction projects at an advantageous time for the school district, and work is underway to have bids for projects ready by December 2017 to January 2018.
The remaining time in June will be spent working on preliminary design for the first round of projects. The design phase will include consultation with stakeholders and staff affected by individual projects.
July will include a design review process, and the months from August to December will be dedicated to creating all the necessary documentation to begin bidding projects in late 2017, early 2018. Actual construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2018.
The first round of bids will address referendum projects at the high school, middle school, and Sunrise, as well as construction of the additional two-court gymnasium at the high school. Construction of the gym space is expected to take 12-14 months.
The scope of work to district facilities approved on May 23 is large. Projects are expected to be phased and should take roughly three years to complete.
