Kevin Seekon is NB High Roller

North Branch adapted bowler Kevin Seekon won the 2017 High Roller Award for throwing the highest-scoring game of the season, a 459 at a state qualifying competition on May 11. Seekon, a sophomore, was one of eight Viking bowlers to reach the state tournament, along with senior captain Neal Dielke, junior Joy Edyvean, junior Marie Rogde, freshman Logan Ricard, eighth-grader Victoria Kent, seventh-grader Eli Black and seventh-grader Matt Fox. These players also earned varsity letters, as did ninth-grader Glenn Beck. The team was coached by John Grund, with educational assistants Luz Buisman, Sandy Danner, Stacy Fairbanks, Barb Harding, Nancy Kaczrowski and Kayla Obitz.

Gutpill, Herberg named academic all-state

Rush City sophomores Jamie Guptill and Elena Herberg were recently informed that they earned a place on the Class A academic all-state team for track and field. Herberg had previously earned all-Great River Conference honors by winning the 1600 and honorable mention status as runner-up in the 800 and 4×400 relay. The versatile Guptill also earned honorable mention honors on the relay and later advanced to the state meet in the shot put, finishing 13th. Dylan Groshens won two all-conference awards as champion of the 110 and 300 hurdles; Joelle Leigland, Taylor Anderson, Ashley Lindberger and Ellie Mae White made up the all-conference quartet in the 4×100 relay. Sydney Fulcher, Madylyn Hilton, Eva Hora, Isabel Medina and Josefine Jager earned honorable mention citations.

RC golf awards

Juniors T.J. Roth and Jacob Scherer and sophomore Sam Sybrant were named to the All-Great River Conference boys golf team. That trio led the Tigers to the conference championship in 2017, with varsity players senior Eddie Johnson, junior Ethan White and freshman Brandon Gullerud also contributing to the title run. Head coach Jeremy Albright was named the GRC Boys Coach of the Year. On the girls side of the ledger, sophomore Kaylee Bowen earned a place on the all-conference team.

NB seniors named to all-conference golf teams

The two seniors in the 2017 North Branch varsity golf lineup were both named on the Mississippi 8 Conference postseason honors list. Reece Armistead was named to the all-conference team, while Joe Fabini earned all-conference, honorable mention.
