Officer involved shooting following carjacking

There was an officer involved shooting following a carjacking in North Branch this morning, according to the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office has been posting updates on its Twitter account over the last couple of hours about the hunt for the suspect, who stole a black Chevy Impala at gunpoint in the 37900 block of Greenway Avenue around 9 a.m.

The shooting may have occurred near the 6200 block of 440th Street in Harris.

After taking that vehicle, the suspect, described as a white man between 40 and 55 years old with a scruffy beard and shaggy hair, tried to take another car but was unsuccessful. He had a child with him. The child was reportedly found safe.

The Sheriff’s Office reported the suspect drove through a backyard, over a fence and onto I-35.

There is no other information about the shooting at this time, but the Sheriff’s Office noted it will be issuing a press release on the incident soon.
