School supplies and a great opportunity to help

Now is the time of year parents and guardians start preparing students for the upcoming school year. North Branch Area Public Schools provides updated school supply lists for the upcoming school year on the “Parent/Student Resource” page at its website ( Look for a link to this page in the upper right-hand corner of any school district webpage.
You can find other important documents there as well, such as the “free and reduced lunch” application, school year calendars, enrollment paperwork, and information about “Here Comes the Bus,” ParentVUE, and StudentVUE.
Today I would like to encourage not just parents and guardians, but all community members, to access the school supply lists for a different reason.
Each year as school districts welcome students in the fall, there will be a number of those students who arrive that first day without school supplies due to money constraints. This year, Community Education Director Brett Carlson has teamed with our partners at the North Branch Area Chamber of Commerce to promote “Stuff the Bus.”
Stuff the Bus is a school supply drive for students and families of all ages that unites the community through generous donations from families, local organizations and businesses. The goal is simple: stuff a school bus full of school supplies.
This school supply drive will culminate at Central Park in North Branch 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 24. There will be a bus on hand and the hope is to “stuff” it with school supplies by the end of the event. Community Education will provide cookies and water for those in attendance.
If you would like to contribute, but are unable to attend the event, donations can be dropped off at both the Community Education office (38705 Grand Ave.) or the Chamber office. Thank you in advance for considering a contribution to this wonderful event. With your help, every student can start the year ready to learn.
