Rae Riley grew up in Rush City and now lives in Rock Creek, where she is raising her family. Since she was a teenager, she has enjoyed writing.
“I started as a reader,” Riley said. “I love books. I wanted to create that kind of feeling (that books gave her).” One of Riley’s favorite authors is Aleatha Romig. Romig’s books are available through Kindle.
“She (Romig) is very interactive with her fans,” Riley said. “I have seen her at readings. She knows me.”
So when Amazon decided to open up a “kindle world” around Romig’s “Infidelity” series — which is not about cheating — for other authors, Romig approached Riley personally to see if she would be interested in writing a book for the expanded series.
There are five books by Romig in the series. The “Fidelity World” is open to other authors who have to take an element of Romig’s books and write their own story. “Fifteen authors have published in The ‘Fidelity World’ since it launched in March 2017, and another round is set to publish in January 2018,” Riley said. “Some of the authors are big names, like Pam Godwin and A.D. Justice while others, like me, are just starting out.”
Riley’s book, Sacrifice, is a novella following one of Romig’s characters, Chelsea Moore.
“I chose to write about Chelsea Moore because of her strength,” Riley said, noting that Moore is a heroine who goes to great lengths to protect her best friend.
Riley finds time to write during her children’s’ nap time.
“Nap time is a godsend,” she said with a laugh. “Because I have young children, most of my writing takes place during nap time and after they have gone to bed for the night.”
The reader reaction to her first book has been encouraging, “Sacrifice is my first published book and the response to it has been incredible,” she said. “4.6 out of 5 stars on Amazon, 4.4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads — it was even number one in its category and had the orange best seller sticker on Amazon for a while. I am so grateful to the people who want to read my writing.”
She plans to take that momentum and tunnel it towards her own series.
“Right now I am working on my ‘Love, Your Secret Admirer’ series,” she said. “It’s a four-book romance suspense series about a stalker and his prey that takes place in a small Wisconsin town. I hope to release the first book in January 2018.”
