The North Branch School Board, last night (April 10), heard the complete proposed
solution to next year’s $2.9 budget shortfall. The three-phase process
has left few areas of the district unaffected by budget reductions.

In a cold cabin, steps off of County Road 9 and just feet from the
front door of Wade Olson’s green and white home, rests a living museum
of Sunrise’s claim to fame: The birthplace of iconic Hollywood actor
Richard Widmark.

In order to meet the cash flow needs for the Road and Bridge Fund, the
Chisago County commissioners last week had to approve a temporary
transfer of $2 million from other funds, at the request of County
Treasurer Lee Olson.

Chisago County Veterans Services Officer Jim Halstrom has prepared a
colorful booklet that includes much useful information for county
veterans. The county commissioners received a copy of this booklet at
the April 2 board meeting.

The North Branch City Council holds at least two work sessions a month. The idea is that the councilors will get background information and
learn about upcoming issues and projects and be able to talk more
casually about them before having to make official decisions at the
regular council meetings.

The Lions Club prime rib dinner was well attended this year. There were 428 adults who came for prime rib and 51 kids that came for the pizza. Scott Tolzman and the Harmonaires entertained for the diners’ pleasure.

Council meeting approved the hiring of Rebecca Lawrence as a new police
officer for the city’s police department. The interview team consisted of Police Chief Steve Forner, Lt. Dan Meyer, Sgt. Rick Sapp and City Clerk Ry-Chel Gausted.
