Freeze Your Bunz Race lives up to its name
pair2.jpgWith snow falling and the temperate falling with it, more than 115 people participated in the first ever Freeze Your Bunz 5K Feb. 9 at the North Branch Winter Fest, starting at the  head of the Sunrise Praire Trail. Sam Westerberg of Cambridge was the fastest male finisher while Linda Green of Arden Hills was the first female to cross the finish line.
 
Fleming jury almost filled out
On Friday afternoon, Feb. 8, after almost five days of the extensive and sometimes deeply personal testimony of potentials, the jury count for the Craig Fleming trial stood at 12. In interviews during the  Thursday session, questions about alcohol, firearms, and personal relationships with violent crime were numerous.
 
The Medallion has been found

State caucuses draw many to grass roots politics
cauc3.jpgThe voting precincts throughout Minnesota were reporting nearly the same type of turnout for precinct caucuses on Tuesday night, rooms were overflowing, and Chisago County was no exception. See local results for both the Republican and Democratic parties.

 In the Osceola, Wisconsin business park, 17 of the 21 businesses are from Minnesota. Chisago County lost six businesses to Wisconsin in the last five years. Information like this, coming from the county’s economic development authority director, is disconcerting, to say the least.

 
Get ready for some winter fun in North Branch
It’s winter in Minnesota and brave folks don’t mind bundling up for some outdoor fun. This year there is plenty of snow to enjoy the festivities at North Branch’s 8th Annual Winter Fest.
 
‘K Everyday’ coming next year
The North Branch School District saw significant declines in kindergarten enrollment this school year. To combat that it plans to begin an all-day/every-day pilot program next year.

Jury selection for the Craig Steven Fleming first degree murder trial got underway promptly Monday morning, and is scheduled to take the bulk of the week. Attorney interviews of prospective jurors to start Tuesday, Feb. 5.
 
Fire guts house in Nessel
fire2.jpgAn early morning house fire on Jan. 30 has left a Nessel Twsp. couple without their home. The Rush City Fire Dept. responded to the call just before 1:30 a.m. By then, the home was fully engulfed in flames. The extreme cold temperatures did present challenges, but did not hamper the effort.
