What does it take to get to state with a History Day project? A lot, according to History Day project advisor Pam Newbauer. North Branch sent eight middle school students and four high school
students to the state History Day project competition at the U of M
campus in Minneapolis recently.

In the same month that her daughter, Jenni, graduates with a BA from
Augsburg, LaDonna Olson will graduate with an MA from Luther
Seminary. “We both started in September of ‘04, and Jenni went
full-time while I took a half-time load and did some summer courses too. Luther Seminary has many courses that I could take online, so that helped me save on fuel,” LaDonna said.

Her degree from Luther Seminary is in the program of Congregational
Ministries and Leadership. Her specialization is Ministry in Daily
Life. The specialization is to equip Christians with knowledge and
skills for their personal vocations and ministry as it is lived out in
their homes, workplaces, communities, and congregations.

When you think of buckin’ bull riding cowboys, or agile barrel racing
cowgirls, you may think Texas, Wyoming, Montana, or any place other
than Minnesota. But yes, right here in the land of 10,000 lakes, high
school rodeo is alive and kickin’.

Due to high water and muddy conditions on the banks of Rush Creek, The Rush City Family Center will not be floating ducks down the creek for our Lucky Duck Race. There will be a drawing at The Family Center at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 10.

On April 11, the North Branch High School National Honor Society hosted the annual Battle of the Bands.
There were six bands this year, which included Deception of Reality, Children of Zion, Alliance 49, Heyn Sight, Fretwork, and Fall of the Condemned.
There was only one solo act this year – Rachel Torgerson. The winners this year were: 1st – Fretwork (pictured), 2nd – Children of Zion, 3rd – Rachel Torgerson.

The 17th annual Lucky Duck Race will be held on Saturday, May 10. The
race is a fund-raiser for the Rush City Family Center and will benefit
the preschool scholarship fund. The race begins at 11 a.m. in the area just south of the Grant House in Rush City.

The public is invited to view the work of over 100 photographers who
live in Pine, Isanti, Chisago, Kanabec and Mille Lacs counties. The
exhibit is part of “To Write With Light: A Photographic Art
Exposition,” presented by Northern Exposures Photography Club (NEPC)
and sponsored by the Pine City Library Foundation.

North Branch Mayor Gloria Karsky will host a Prayer
Breakfast Thursday, May 1, National Day of Prayer, 6:30
a.m.- 8 a.m. at the American Legion hall. Guest speaker will be Dan Hall, chaplain for the Minnesota
Legislature. Enjoy fellowship with other community members, worship
and music.The group will be offering up prayers for the communities’
needs.
