Fairview Lakes Health Services is pleased to announce the addition of a
fourth general surgeon, Dr. Lan Raikar. Dr. Raikar received her medical
degree from the University of Nebraska, Medical Center, in Omaha and
completed her general surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester
in 1991.

Beverly Otterness, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary from North
Branch, was in Washington, D.C. recently lobbying for issues that
affect American war veterans. Otterness, past state president for the Minnesota American Legion Auxiliary, was one of a delegation of 35 Minnesotans.

At Stars and Strikes Entertainment Center in Wyoming they will rack ‘em
up and let ‘em roll at another YSB Pool Tourney for youths and adult
pairs.Here’s your perfect shot at some quality time with a youth and
friendly competition against other pairs. Youths in grades 7-12 and an adult partner are invited to participate
in this best of three, double-elimination pool tournament on Saturday,
April 26.

On Friday, April 4, Colin Ehrnriter competed in the State Geography
Bee held at Macalester College in St. Paul.
Colin, a 7th grader at
North Branch Middle School, qualified for the state competition by
winning the local school contest and then he had one of the top 100
scores on a test given to all school-bee winners throughout the state.
On Friday, Colin gave the correct answer to 6 of 8 preliminary
questions, but only students who scored 8 correct went on to the next
round of competition.
Colin represented North Branch Middle
School very well, and he will try to qualify for state competition
again next year as an 8th grader.

Fairview Lakes Health Services, along with other national, state and
community organizations, is participating in a massive effort to
highlight the importance of advance healthcare decision-making—an
effort that has led to the formal designation of April 16, as the first
National Healthcare Decisions Day.

North Branch Area Girl Scout Troop 51060 participated in the Gift of Caring Community Service Project this year.
Through Gift of Caring, Troop 51060 sold 23 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to donate to New Pathways, Inc. in Cambridge.
New Pathways, Inc provides shelter to homeless families with children by partnering with area churches.
Since opening in 2000, New Pathways has served over 250 families including over 750 homeless people in our area, over half of these are children.
