Tigers thump East Central
On Feb. 8, the boys traveled to play East Central, winning 69-60. With senior Andy Erickson out of the lineup Bosman stepped up his game, scoring a team-high 28 points. Bosman was deadly from behind the arc, hitting six of nine three point attempts.
 
Tigers fight hard in losing efforts
The Rush City girls basketball team succumbed to a lackluster second half in a loss to Frederick 59-38 Feb. 4. At the end of the first half, the score was 21-20, Frederic. Then the second half came and the Tigers were outscored by 20-points. “Frederic came out after half and turned up their defense which caused problems for us,” head coach Mark Henrich said.
 
Vikes succumb to St. Francis, Red Knights
A veteran back court presence and an athletic team-style defense won last week; the North Branch girls basketball team loss to two teams who had an ample supply of both.  In their contest with the red-hot Benidle-St. Margaret’s Knights, the Vikings lost 64-49.
 
Upset not in cards for NB
The North Branch boys basketball team came within six points of beating the No. 1 rated team in class 3A last week. On Feb. 4, the boys lost to Benidle-St. Margaret’s 80-74. Head coach Bill Baumann admitted his squad couldn’t’ have played much better against the Red Knights.
 
Tigers regroup after loss
guard2.jpgThe Pine City Dragons shot the lights out of the Rush City gymnasium Feb. 5 as they handed the Tigers a whopping 29-point loss on their home court. It was Rush City’s biggest loss of the season.  With both sides of the bleachers filled, the Tigers bowed to the top-ranked Great River Conference team, 80-51.
 
Mora blanks Dragons
The Rush City/Pine City boys hockey lost a defensive game to the Mora Mustangs 1-0 on Feb. 7. The loss wasn’t for lack of preparation, head coach Tim Schlichting said. “We concentrated on some face off plays this week and implemented a strong-side stretch breakout to open up our zone,” Schlichting said.
 
Best score of season for NB gymnastics
Kassie Salo placed second in all-around to help the North Branch gymnastics team move past St. Anthony 126.95 to 123.475. It was the team’s fourth conference win of the season.
 
It took overtime, but RC prevails
coach2.jpgIn its third overtime game of the year, the Rush City boys basketball team pulled together to earn a hard-fought 76-71 win against  Great River Conference foe Aitkin on the road Feb. 1 in overtime.

Boys win big against Tigers, Hylanders
winner2.jpgThe North Branch wrestling team kept its momentum as it steam rolled two opponents last week. Versus the Rush City Tigers, the boys won 70-9 Jan. 29 at home.
 
Tigers on seven game slide
outofb2.jpgIn took an extra session to decide the contest between Rush City and Isle on Feb. 1. When the dust settled, the girls basketball team lost by four, 56-52.
 
Gymnastics take down NB, St. Anthony
On Feb. 1, the Rush City/Pine City / Hinckley-Finlayson gymnastic co-op defeated North Branch 130.65-125.1. Head coach Dianne Meier said the beam was not the best. In the team’s last meet vs. St. Anthony they earned a 35.1 with only one fall. Against the Vikings, they plummeted on the bar to 31.625 with six falls.
