Offensive ablaze in win versus Harding
The North Branch boys basketball team put the pieces to their basketball puzzle together as they beat St. Paul Harding, 73-48 Jan. 24 .Senior Jake Chambers led the team in scoring with 18 points on seven of 11 from the floor, while John Lindstrom added 17 points.
 
Viking wrestlers shine at Grand Rapids Invite, take 4th place
At the Grand Rapids Invite Jan. 26, the North Branch wrestling team proved they can compete with the best teams in the area as they took 4th place out of 13 teams.  Boyd Suparat was crowned the champion of his weight class while heavy weight John Morrison took second place.
 
Interim coach hired to fill void
A week after North Branch gymnastics coach Susie Toohey resigned from her head coaching duties, the school district has found an interim replacement.
 
Vikes get revenge against SLP

The girls did a complete 180 last week as they toppled Spring Lake by 9 points, the same team they lost to by 26 points earlier in the season.
 
Local business offers free self defense class on Feb. 2

North Branch Tae Kwon Do & Kickboxing is offering a free Women’s Self-Defense Class on Feb. 2 starting at noon. The class will be taught by North Branch Tae Kwon Do & Kickboxing instructor Heath Fonnest. 

 
Tigers improve to 6-2 in GRC
Coach Jeremy Albright was not feeling well. Not from something he ate for dinner the night before the game, but from watching his team play against Ogilvie on Jan. 22.
 
The battle rages on in busy week of wrestling
black2.jpgThe North Branch wrestling team had a busy week of competition, while the long wrestling season starts to take its toll on the team.  Against Zimmerman on Jan. 15, the boys  were winners, with a 53-23 finish.
 
Vault keeps girls afloat
nbg2.jpgThe North Branch gymnastics team was in full swing at the Main Street School last week as they took on St. Francis Jan. 17. In the end, the score went in favor of the Fighting Saints 122.075-135.40.
 
Toohey steps down as coach

st2.jpg North Branch head gymnastics coach Susie Toohey stepped down as head coach, effective immediately. She will not return next season. Toohey was suspended from North Branch Activities Director Becky Leuer for not attending the Princeton Invitational on Jan. 19.

 
Boys put the smack down on Chisago Wildcats
fly2.jpgIn all games to win, none may be better than against a long-time rival. The Vikings defeated the Chisago Lakes Wildcats in a low scoring affair 48-38 at home Jan. 17.
 
Conference wins elude RC
The Rush City Tigers, (2-10) lost a Great River Conference tousle to the Aitkin Gobblers 61-41 Jan. 15 on the road. Brittany Scheffer led the team with 11 points while collecting four rebounds. Sophomore Andrea Becker came off the bench for the girls, and cleaned the glass with 8 rebounds.
 
Girls play hard, yet come up short of wins
North Branch is a team that is fighting to keep its head above water and last week they went under as they suffered conferences to Robbinsdale Cooper and Chisago Lakes.
