With my editor somewhere between Grand Forks and home this Tuesday
morning, it falls on me to play editor this week and fill her rather
large shoes (figurative, not literal). As such, I thought I would use
this space to bring readers up to date on some of the exciting things
that are happening...

When I was 15 my hockey coaches, despite my diminutive stature, decided
I’d make a better defenseman than forward, and I was paired with a
young man named Pat Schafhauser.

Taxpayers had a ring-side seat last week for the DFL majority’s passage
of a massive tax increase for transportation. The cost of the seat,
though, was enough to make even the greediest scalper blush: $6.6
billion, the single largest increase in state history.

Last week I had the unique experience of covering Craig Fleming’s trial
on a daily basis online (You can read the stories at the “Fleming on
trial” page of the Post Review Web site). It was an experiment for this
weekly newspaper and, judging by readership, a successful one.

important to note that the education apparatus and the people it serves
sometimes suffer from a language barrier.
