Swanson: We have been spared
I don’t know why, I don’t know how, but we here in East Central Minnesota have been spared ... spared the tornadoes, the fires, the flooding, the cyclones and the earthquakes. Whatever our troubles may be, we must be thankful we are not pulling our neighbors out from under piles of rubble...

Swanson: I was a green mama and I wasn’t from Mars
All this talk about going green, nothing new to me. In the late 60s, my husband and I packed up the Chevy station wagon and moved to Rush City. It was our own 32-acre piece of God’s great earth. We were “back to the land,” as they said.

Ah, spring, you’re here. Hopefully, you have come in time to save the people of East Central Minnesota from the winter malady which has, of lately, manifested itself in anger, impatience, orneriness, stubbornness and spite. We waited long for you.

Heinzman: First harness racing track in Minnesota expected to draw interest of many
The first harness racing track in Minnesota, Running Aces in Columbus, opened April 11, continuing the gambling trend that many say they oppose but participate in anyway. Enthusiasm is building for this harness racing that’s expected to attract thousands of people.  If the qualifying races and open house turnouts are any indication...
