Viking wrestlers shine at Grand Rapids Invite, take 4th place |

At the Grand Rapids Invite Jan. 26, the North Branch wrestling team
proved they can compete with the best teams in the area as they took
4th place out of 13 teams.
Boyd Suparat was crowned the champion of his weight class while heavy weight John Morrison took second place.
On Suparat, head coach Tony Aho said, “He puts a lot into this sport and is reaping the rewards of all of his hard work.”
Suparat currently holds the record at North Branch for the most career wins at more than 100.
In the 140 pound weight class, Tom Newham took third.

Against Chisago Lakes, the Vikings won by the thickness of their uniforms, 37-34 on Jan. 24.
North Branch knew prior to the match it was going to be an all-out as battle as both teams know each other’s style well.
Jake Kostik in the 103 pound weight class started the match on a high note, pinning Bobby Sontag.
Justin Bergerson managed a 6-5 win against Troy Motague.
“Bergerson was outstanding as he outwrestled one of Chisago’s better wrestlers,” Aho said.
