An early morning house fire on Jan. 30 has left a Nessel Twsp. couple without their home.

The Rush City Fire Dept. responded to the call, at 41988 Amble Ave., just before 1:30 a.m. According to Rush City Fire Chief Bob Carlson, the house was fully engulfed in flames upon arrival. The Rush City department was supported by the Braham, Harris, and North Branch departments, as well as Lakes Region EMS and the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office.
Carlson believed that one of the occupants suffered minor burns to the hands.
The departments battled the blaze until just before 5 a.m., and Carlson said the -18 degree temperatures were not an issue. “It hampers how we do things,” he said, but as long as the water is kept flowing, as it was yesterday, it is not a problem.
In all, roughly 50 firefighters were on scene.
Carlson stressed that homeowners should double check batteries in both smoke and CO detectors, and make sure chimneys are clear.
