Red Bull Day celebrated in Stacy

redbullday1.jpgSaturday, June 27 was declared Red Bull Day in both the city of Stacy and Chisago County. Stacy Mayor John Daher and County Commissioner Ben Montzka  presented proclamations to Capt. Interstate 35 resurfacing project to begin July 7
Motorists on I-35 in Chisago County will encounter traffic delays beginning July 7 when the Minnesota Department of Transportation begins resurfacing on the road between North Branch and the Goose Creek Rest Area (1.5 miles north of Harris).

Legislative advisory commission says Pawlenty's pending unallotment 'unwise'

tims.jpgThe Legislative Advisory Commission today (Tuesday, June 30) passed a resolution calling Gov. Tim Pawlenty's pending $2.7 billion state budget unallotment "unwise."

Senate Majority Leader Larry Pogemiller, DFL-Minneapolis, questioned whether the future legislature would ever pay back the K-12 funding shift contained in the unallotment.  But Pawlenty Management and Budget Commissioner Tom Hanson defended the administration's actions. Photo by T.W. Budig 

 
Stearns Bank acquires Horizon Bank

A tarp-like drape with the name Stearns Bank was hanging over the Horizon Bank sign in North Branch this weekend signaling the acquisition of Horizon Bank by the St. Cloud-based institution Stearns Bank N.A.


 
Highway 95 detour lifted; lane closures continue east of Cambridge
The detour on Highway 95 east of Cambridge has been lifted, reports the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The detour was necessary to allow crews to replace a box culvert at a stream between Skogman Lake and Fannie Lake.
 
Environmental department issues lead board agenda

interstatedump.jpgThe Chisago County Board of Commissioners agreed with the county’s planning commissioners last week on the need for a license to hold a special event. There is none, they decided, need, that is, and discussion of the issue...

This is a sampling of the dumped appliances in a ravine at Interstate Park. The DNR and city of Taylors Falls will be cleaning up the site in a few days. The county will pay recycling subsidies when the appliance are taken away. 

 
RC parents concerned about large 6th-grade classes
Parents of 6th-grade students in Rush City are concerned about class size for the coming school year.
Last week at the school board meeting they were given a chance to speak although not on the official agenda. See video clip from the school board meeting.
 
Fish Lake resident questions user fee
Steve Thorp was the lone speaker at the citizen’s forum last week at the Chisago County Board meeting. Standing before the commissioners, the Fish Lake Township resident  asked if the $3 fee required on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at Fish Lake Park was fair. No damp spirits at Midsummer parade

But hundreds of folks lined up along Main Street in North Branch anyway and kids by the dozens enjoyed their candy collecting.
