Multiple arsons in Taylors Falls |

By Patrick Tepoorten
A typically quiet Saturday morning was anything but in Taylors Falls last weekend. Starting at 2 a.m., the fire department was busy fighting not one but two house fires, and investigators believe they were caused by an arsonist who wanted to burn even more homes.
It appears an arsonist targeted homes for sale in the residential neighborhoods of Taylors Falls. Firefighters from all over the area were first called to 347 Military Road at around 2 a.m. Less than three hours later, crews were dispatched to 478 Maple Street, where another house was fully engulfed.
Noting that both houses had “for sale” signs in the yard, investigators started looking at other houses in the area that also had signs. Evidence of an unsuccessful arson attempt were found at 579 Caneday Street, and later in the day more was discovered at 630 Caneday Court.
As of Tuesday there were no leads, and the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office and city of Taylors Falls have combined to offer a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
Anyone with information should call the Sheriff’s Office at (651) 257-4100.
The St. Croix Falls, Shafer, Almelund, Center City, and Lindstrom fire departments assisted in fighting the fires.
