froelke.jpgMary Delmore Froelke, age 98, of Rush City, Minn., died February 15, 2008 at Unity  Hospital, Fridley,  Minn.  She was born May 5, 1909, in Jamestown, North Dakota, the fourth child of Patrick and Louise (Young) Delmore.   She attended St. John’s Academy until high school graduation in 1927. She became a student at Jamestown College and received a teaching certificate in elementary education.  She attended Trinity Hospital School of Nursing in Jamestown, received her diploma and was licensed as a registered nurse in North Dakota.  Following a year as a private duty nurse, she pursued graduate studies in surgical nursing at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Ill. She worked at Children’s Home Orphanage and Children’s Hospital in St. Paul. When her family moved to Rush City during the Depression, she began working as a nurse in Braham Hospital. When Rush City Hospital opened in 1941, she worked there until her retirement at age 67 as a nurse, nurse anesthetist and director of nurses.

She married Leonard Froelke at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rush City on May 29, 1937. They became the parents of four daughters and lived on a farm north of Rush City until Leonard’s death in 1964. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the oldest parishioner of the Sacred Heart Church.

She was an avid reader, loved poetry, and was an excellent oral reader and story teller.  She kept up to date on current affairs by reading the daily newspaper, and served as the family historian. She had a keen memory, a good sense of humor, and enjoyed conversations with friends and family.

She is survived by her daughters; Constance (Glenn) Cobian, River Falls, Wisc.,  Sheila (Clifford) Carlson, Fridley, Minn., Maureen (James) Connor, Hudson, Wisc., Mary (William) Connor, Rush City,  nine grandchildren; William (Amy Roering) Cobian,  Richard (Jennifer) Cobian,  Edward (Sarah) Cobian,  Nora (Brent) O’Hara,  Shawn (Corwyn) Arlt, Leah (Steven) Price,  Mark (Catherine) Connor, Christopher (Stacey) Connor, and Scott Connor,   12 great-grandchildren;  Hunter,  Hallie,  Nicholas,  Sophia, Blake,  Paige,  Benjamin,  Allison,  Collin,  Neil,  Alexandra,  Brianna,  sisters-in-law;  Eleanore Beise, New Brighton, Minn. and Vi Froelke, Rush City, as well as many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, her parents, her sisters Anastasia Fallow and Margarite Delmore, her brothers George, Bernard, and Michael Delmore, her great-granddaughter, Jordan Cobian, and special niece, Patricia Fallow Vinlove.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 1 at 10:30 a.m., Fr. Xavier Thelakkatt, officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church.  Music will be provided by Mary’s daughter Connie Cobian accompanying the soloist Ms. April Green.  Honorary casket bearers include Mary’s nine grandchildren with the interment to follow the Mass in the  Calvary  Cemetery in  Rush  City.  Memorials are preferred to the Rush City Public Library. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service of Rush City - Olson Chapel.
