The North Branch boys hockey team lost its last home game of the regular season 10-2 to Redwood Valley on Feb. 15.
Redwood Valley struck the first of many blows, taking a 2-0 advantage
in the first period before North Branch’s Lane Noye was able to score
with less than a minute left.

Zengerle went for the puck during their game against Redwood Valley
Feb. 15 in Chisago Lakes. The boys lost the game 10-2. It was the
Vikings last regular season home game.
Noyes was assisted on the play by Charile Fernow and Jake Lenards.
The score didn’t stay at 3-1 long as Redwood Valley scored on a breakaway with three seconds left in the period to go up 3-1.
The second stanza was all Redwood Valley as they poured in four second
period goals while the Vikings were held scoreless. Redwood Valley
scored three power play goals.
North Branch head coach Darrell Schulte said Redwood Valley scored three goals at the end of each period.
“Those are killers that just can’t happen,” he said.
Schulte noted it was inconsistent play that was the team’s downfall.
In the third period, Redwood Valley scored three more goals to end
their scoring at 10. North Branch, however, was able to cut their lead
slightly when Jarrett Sachs scored a goal with less than six minutes
remaining in the game. Sachs was assisted on the play by David
Henderson.
Senior Aaron Barriger started in nets for the Vikings, replacing Scott Dennis who didn’t play because of an injury.
Barriger stopped 16 of 26 shots on goal.
With the loss, the boys slipped to 1-18 on the season.
Schulte summed up the game from his perspective.
“We skated as if we had bus legs,” he said.
