An undisclosed tip, evidence gathered at a “ditch lab,” and commercial store surveillance led to the discovery of a methamphetamine laboratory in Rush City last Thursday night.
A search warrant was served at 430 W. 8th Street, Rush City, at 9:56 on Feb. 21. Authorities discovered a laboratory in an outbuilding at the residence, and collected evidence of materials used to manufacture the drug, like ephedrine, sudo ephedrine, methamphetamine, and paraphernalia.
Authorities were led to the property after evidence of a lab was discovered discarded in a roadside ditch within the last month. That, combined with evidence of purchases of sudephedrine and a tip led the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office to seek a search warrant for the property.
The result was four arrests on drug-related charges.
Joseph Schellbach, 29, of Rush City, was arrested for first degree manufacture and first degree possession of methamphetamine.
Debora Kozicek, 52, of Rush City, was arrested for fifth degree possession of methamphetamine.
Jesse Ponce, 26, of Brainerd, was arrested for first degree manufacture and first degree possession of methamphetamine.
Amber Smith, 20, of Mora, was arrested for fifth degree possession of methamphetamine, conspiracy to commit first degree manufacture of methamphetamine, and possession of precursors of methamphetamine production.
As of Monday morning, all four suspects were still being held in the Chisago County Jail.
