Rush City ends regular season with loss; prepares for playoffs PDF Print

pivot1.jpgThe Rush City girls basketball team was within striking distance of the state-ranked Maranatha but let the game slip away in the second half with a 54-27 loss on Feb. 21.

Before the game, the team recognized six seniors for their play. Seniors Brittany Scheffer, Amy Carlson, Chenoa Fields, Megan Drevecky, April Kjelland and Brittney Hein were praised by head coach Mark Henrich for their dedication to the program.

“These girls have done a great job this year along with their teammates in showing that no matter what the odds are to never give up and keep working hard until the end. I am very proud of the girls this evening and for the season,” he said.

Brittany Scheffer led the team with 11 points. Chenoa Fields finished with nine rebounds.

Hinckley-Finlayson

When the Jaguars marched into the Rush City gymnasium, they played a much different team from the beginning of the season. Rush City played fundamental basketball for the first half, being down by just seven points to enter the half.

For the final 18 minutes of play, Hinckley-Finlayson proved too much as the Tigers were outscored 37-22 for the 22-point loss. The final score was 62-40.

“We played with them for the first half in which we led most of the time. The girls played very hard and never gave up against one of the top teams in the conference,” Henrich said.

Brittany Scheffer led the team with 12 points while April Kjelland added 10 points. Senior Amy Carlson did an efficient job running the point guard position and finished with seven assists

Rush City ended its regular season 2-20 overall and 1-15 in the Great River Conference.

On Feb. 28, the girls travel to play the Braham Bombers in the first round of the section playoffs.
