According to a press release from County Attorney Janet Reiter, the jury deliberated for just over three hours before returning guilty verdicts on four charges; attempted first degree murder, attempted second degree murder, first degree burglary, and second degree assault. Pawliszko, who faces up to 20 years in prison as a result, will be sentenced on May 7, at 1:30 p.m.
The assault occurred in the early morning hours of July 26, 2007. According to witnesses, Pawliszko drove his truck through Peters’ garage in Rush City at approximately 2:30 a.m. He then entered the house and repeatedly stabbed Peters.
Peters, who according to investigators suffered 8-10 stab wounds primarily to the torso area, was able to escape and flee to a neighboring residence.
Pawliszko fled the scene, leading to a manhunt that ended later that afternoon when Pawliszko was recognized from media reports at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. He was there for treatment of what investigators called “self-inflicted wounds.”
Penny Peters's residence, on North Eliot Ave. in Rush City, was the scene of the crime.
