North Branch hits late season doldrums PDF Print
By Steve Morris

On Feb. 26, the boy’s ship was sunk by a Chisago Lakes team with a full arsenal of shooting and defense. The final damage, North Branch 41, Chisago Lakes 57.

What got under the skin of North Branch head coach Bill Baumann’s was his team’s lack of rebounding.

“We aren’t going to win many games when the opponent gets more offensive rebounds than we get total rebounds. They were more aggressive and got to the free throw line a lot more than we did and when they got there they converted,” Baumann said.

For North Branch, senior John Lindstrom was on target from three-point land, and made four of seven and finished with 12 points while Jake Chambers finished with 11 points.

“I was surprised the game was as close as it was for that long being dominated at the free throw line and on the boards.  Then, coming out in the second half, we just couldn’t buy a shot. We couldn’t do the little things,” he said.

Against the North Suburban Conference Panthers, the Vikings lost 62-42.

Chambers and Lindstrom provided a powerful one, two punch for the Vikings (Chambers ended with 13 points and Lindstrom finished with 8) yet it wasn’t enough to lift the boys past the Panthers.

“We are a team that needs to take care of the basketball, play defense, execute on both ends of the court and make free throws. When we get away from these things it is tough for us.  Every possession on each end of the court is critical for us and right now we are having little breakdowns,” Baumann said.
