Drug activity uncovered at NB schools PDF Print
By Patrick Tepoorten

The North Branch School District and local law enforcement are currently conducting a marijuana investigation that encompasses both the middle school and high school. The specific number of students involved is not available yet as the investigation is ongoing.

The district became aware of the possibility students were involved in the possession, use and sale of marijuana the afternoon of Feb. 27. At this time district officials will confirm only that there are less than a dozen students involved and that the majority of that number are students at the middle school.

As noted, the investigation is ongoing and new information is “uncovered daily” according to Community Relations Coordinator Sara Thompson. “There is new information daily and the situation continues to grow and change,” she said.

In a letter to parents dated March 4, Superintendent Deb Henton called the situation an “unusual circumstance” for the district and added, “We take these activities very seriously.”

According to the district, no punishments have been meted out at this time, but once the investigation is complete involved students, “will be disciplined for possession, use, and distribution of illegal drugs on school grounds,” said Thompson.

According to district policy 506, the punishment for such activities can range from a parent conference to expulsion.

The Post Review will have more on this story as it becomes available.
