Concern by the North Branch Police Department (NBPD) over local burglaries was increased exponentially last weekend with the introduction of fire into the equation. Investigators are hoping the community can provide some answers.
At 7:45 a.m. Sunday (March 2), North Branch police and fire were dispatched to a house fire at 7110 376th Street. It was soon discovered there may be more to the blaze than first thought. The home was missing several items: televisions, stereo gear, jewelry, and firearms.
According to Investigator Todd Frank, the burglary was but one of several that have occurred over the last three months. Vehicles, tools, TVs, stereos, computers, firearms and jewelry have been reported stolen. But this is the first such burglary with the added element of fire.
“It’s very concerning,” said Frank, who is hopeful the community will report any information they might have regarding this or other burlgaries. Just as important, Frank advised that the community can help put a stop to the rash of break-ins. “Be watchful of your neighbor’s house and report any suspicious activity,” he said.
Currently, the NBPD is looking into the possibility that the recent rash of burglaries is connected in some way, and the State Fire Marshall is investigating what the NBPD will only call a “suspicious fire” at this time.
The NBPD is asking anyone with information regarding recent burglaries, or anyone who witnesses suspicious behavior in the area, to call (651) 674-8848, or go to www.northbranchpd.com and click on “send on-line anonymous tips.”
