The thought of potentially having $32,000 less college debt could make anyone sleep better at night.
North Branch senior Jared Grams was awarded a four-year $7,000
scholarship to play Division III football at Jamestown College in North
Dakota and was awarded an additional $1,000 four-year unrelated
scholarship. Jamestown College is part of the National Association of
Intercolleigate Athletic division and plays in the Dakota Athletic
Conference.
Grams said he will likely red shirt his first season and when he gets
into the lineup he will play corner back and or defensive back.
For Grams, he chose Jamestown College over St. Scholastica in Duluth (his second choice) because of the price difference.
He said Jamestown, a small private school six hours from North Branch, costs about $20,000 a year.
Grams visited Jamestown College and liked the feeling and the atmosphere.
“I liked it a lot, it’s just a really nice campus,” he said.
Sitting in the North Branch high school cafeteria before the start of
track practice, Grams said the football team is ranked 11th in nation
and that he is excited to play for a winning program.
Grams was a wide receiver and defensive back in North Branch and is the son of Scott Grams and Vicki Borowick.
He tore his ACL early in the football season and was forced to the sideline the remainder of the season.
In a press release to the Post Review, Jamestown head football coach
Bud Etzold said he is excited to have Grams become part of the program.
“He is an outstanding student-athlete, and we believe that he has the
ability to grow and improve as a football player. Overall, we think he
will be an excellent fit for our program.” he said. “We are excited
about Jared’s speed and athletic ability. We think Jared will be an
impact player for the Jimmie Football program in the future.”
