If there is one thing the Rush City boys basketball team can do well this year, it is create close games for themselves.

Last week, the boys played two edge-of-your seat games, winning one while losing the other.

Isle

On Jan. 8, in a game against Isle at home, the boys squeaked by 62-60.

The Tigers did a much better job of taking care of the ball than in previous games. Against Isle, the boys turned the ball over just nine times.

Head coach Jeremy Albright said it was a good game against a tough opponent.

The team did run into foul trouble which almost cost them the game. Senior Andy Erickson fouled out of the game while senior captain Isaac Roll ended with four fouls.

Roll ended the game with a team-high 16 points and 11 defensive rebounds.

Justin "Red" Bosman had 13 points, five steals and four assists in the win.

"I thought for the most part our kids played with mental toughness," Albright said. "Things got crazy out there at times and we dealt with it."

Jared Orn 3, Luke Moulton 8, Dylan Truskolaski 5, Justin Bosman 13, Isaac Roll 16, Cody Waters 4, Andy Erickson 13.

Hinckley-Finlayson

Against Hinckley-Finlayson on Jan. 11, the boys lost in overtime 55-49. (The last time the boys played an overtime game was during the St. John's Holiday Tournament.)

Roll and Erickson were again the leading point scorers. Roll finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds while Erickson ended with 16 points and six assists.

Turnovers and rebounding seemed to be the dagger to the heart of the team.

"We couldn't keep Hinckley off the boards. One kid in particular had 13 offensive rebounds," Albright said.

The boys committed 19 turnovers, compared to just six from Hinckley.

"Give credit to Hinckley, they worked hard and deserved to win," Albright said.

Dylan Truskolaski 10, Justin Bosman 7, Isaac Roll 10, Cody Waters 6, Andy Erickson 16.
