Trinity Christian School students learn about fur post life PDF Print
trin1.jpgTrinity Christian School students embarked on a field trip to one of the Minnesota Historical Society’s historic sites, North West Company Fur  Post in Pine City. The children were taught about the Europeans and Ojibwe people and interactively participated in different educational events throughout the day.

Upon arrival, the children were greeted by tour guides dressed in much of the attire displayed throughout the trading post.  Each group was escorted to a section of the post and educated about its location along the nature outdoor trail.  All of the groups visited the reconstruction of a wintering post for the voyagers, along with a stop inside of a tepee and cooking area.  Along the trail, the children were able to discover how Ojibwe families lived, used, and created things using their resources.  Many of the children participated in fun, exciting, childhood Ojibwe traditions, such as snow snaking and snowshoeing. After finishing the outdoor trail, inside the children listened to Ojibwe story telling, learned about the different types of furs, and visited the extensive exhibit.

Trinity Christian School students would like to thank the North West Company Fur Post for allowing us to visit.
