Now you see it, now you don’t. That’s how fast the old Dairy Queen building went down in Rush City Thursday morning. The building has been vacant for many years, but residents still talked of the delicious malts and other frozen treats they used to get at this shop, even as they applauded the demolition. The property is now owned by the city which was responsible for the cost of asbestos abatement and demolition. City Councilwoman Nancy Schroeder, on hand for the early morning wrecking party, said the city doesn’t  have any plans for the lot right now.

One of the reasons for the city’s urgency in removing the building was for safety.

With this building gone, the council feels there will be a nicer welcome to Rush City for visitors.

For more pictures of the demolition, see the March 19 print edition of the Post Review

Very sad to hear of it going. Even though I left Rush City 4 12 years ago I was born and raised in Rush City and I remember so well the ice cream treats I would get from there. Its a part of home.
