Delores “Sis” Mold |
|
|
Delores Elaine Nelson was born May 9, 1926, in the family home located on Amador Hill near Sunrise, Minnesota. She was the second of five children born to Freeman and Florence (Johnson) Nelson. She was always known as “Sis” to her family and friends.
Sis started school at an early age because her older brother, Dwayne, would not go to school without her. They attended school through the eighth grade in Sunrise and then went to high school in North Branch. Following their graduation in 1943, Sis moved to St. Paul where she worked at Minnesota Mutual Insurance Company.
In 1945, Sis was married to Maurice “Maurie” Mold, and she began her long-time role as a wife and mother. Her interests were centered on her home and family. She took great pride in her excellent cooking, baking, gardening, and housekeeping. As her family expanded, she became a willing babysitter for the grandchildren. In recent years, she was delighted by visits from her great-grandchildren.
Sis and Maurie worked hard at their occupations, but they always remembered to have fun along the way. They shared a passion for country and old-time music, Saturday night dancing, traveling, and gathering with family and friends.
Following Maurie’s death in 1998, Sis began to lose her zest for life. She had problems with her eyes and also developed Parkinson’s disease. She left the farm in 2006 and moved to Countryside Senior Apartments in Rush City. In 2007, she had surgery for breast cancer. Later that year, she moved to an assisted living apartment in The Villages of North Branch. In February of 2008, she moved to the Amador corridor in that facility. She commented that it seemed fitting that she was born in Amador, and now she was returning to Amador.
Sis died peacefully at The Villages of North Branch, on Friday, March 14, 2008, with her family surrounding her. She is survived by her children: Pam and Fred Meissner of Rush City, Minn., Barb and Gordy Bates of Isanti, Minn., Craig and Margaret Mold of Rush City, Minn.; her grandchildren: Tanya and Jeff Schneider of Minnetrista, Matthew and Deborah Meissner of Rush City, Steven and Megan Meissner of Rapid City, South Dakota, Kristen and David Gamache of St. Paul, Minn., Gregory Bates of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, André Mold of Rush City, Minn., Erica and Adam Jeffery London, U.K., Jennifer and Rustin Hahn of Pine City, Minn.; her great-grandchildren: Aly and Emily Schneider, Laura and Karl Meissner, Nathan Meissner, Lily Hahn; sister: Joanne and Don Sybrant of Rush City; brother: Lyle and Judy Nelson, Tempe, Arizona; In-laws: Delores Mold of Rush City, Minn., Eleanor Olson of Almelund, Minn., Lucille Hagert of Sanborn, Minn., and Norman Sellman of White Bear Lake, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sis will be remembered as a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, a special “Grandma Sis,” and a loving sister, aunt, and friend.
Rev. Laurie O’Shea officiated at funeral services Tuesday (3/18/08) at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City with music provided by organist Doris Swanson and soloist Jan Goebel.
Casket bearers included all of Sis’s grandchildren with the interment in the Sunrise Cemetery at Sunrise, Minn. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service of Rush City - Olson Chapel.
