North Branch football players, fans and the community may have to wait until May at the earliest for a new football coach.
It's
the soonest the team will have a coach, North Branch Activities
Director Becky Leuer told Football Ball Advisory Committee members at a
their Jan. 14 meeting at the high school.
The head coach job was
posted internally on North Branch's Web site and was later posted on
the Minnesota State High School League Web site.
Leuer said she
has already received numerous responses from people interested in the
job. She told the committee applicants range from coaches at big
schools to small schools and everything in between.
"We'll hire a teacher first, then a football coach," she said.
When
asked if they could hire a coach who wasn't a teacher in the district,
she answered by saying it is possible, but not ideal for the sport of
football.
Leuer said the new coach is likely to receive a
$4,500 stipend from the district and that the pay is middle of the
range for other schools in the area.
In other North Branch Football Advisory Committee news, the committee:
• Reviewed a list of rules by the Minnesota State High School League
• Heard from Myron Schmitz about working with the Forest Lake Area Athletic Association
• Set the committees next meeting for Feb. 25.
