Howard I. Nelson, age 95 of Lindstrom, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on March 31, 2008. Survived by loving wife, Dorothy; daughters- Carol Peterson, Marcia Smith (Patrick), Kristine Henley (Richard); sons- Peter C. Nelson (Debra), George Nelson (Teri); grandchildren- Todd Peterson, Julie Fliflet, Chad Nelson, Bryan Nelson, Buckley Smith, Laurie Halverson, Jesse Nelson, Adam Nelson, Emily Mellgren; sisters- Alma Sands, Ardis McAfee; and many beloved great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Preceded in death by parents Peter C and Dora K. Nelson of Milltown, Wisc.; brothers Milton (Mick), Vernon, and Art Nelson; and sister Harriet Hart.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew him.
He owned and operated community Market in Lindstrom, Minn. for over 40 years. Active in community service as city councilman, mayor, volunteer firefighter and chief, and many other civic organizations and activities. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church; member of Hiram Lodge #287 A.F. & A.M., Royal Arch, commandry, O.E.S.,Osman Shrine. He served in the Minnesota House of Representatives (1958-1960) and the Minnesota State Senate (1962-1970).
Funeral service will be Sat., April 5, at 3:00 p.m., Trinity Lutheran Church, 13025 Newell Avenue., Lindstrom, Minn, visitation one hour prior to service. Evening visitation at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, Fri., April, 4 at 4:00-8:00. Interment at Fairview Cemetery, Lindstrom.
