As chairman of this year’s Relay For Life of Chisago County committee, I would like to thank residents of our county for their generosity and help. I would also like to take this time to thank the Honorary Co-Chairs for this year, Jerry Vitalis and Nancy Ryan. The outstanding support received proves that the people of Chisago County are truly committed to the fight against cancer.
Already this year we are off to a great start. The Relay For Life of Chisago County Kick-Off dinner was a success at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch.
I thank each and every volunteer that made that event so special. Thanks to the survivors, caregivers, and the many Chisago residents that “doubled” our turn out this year’s opening event for the Relay. We couldn’t have done it without you.
We also appreciate the support of area businesses and organizations; Brinks Market, Reider Machine, Fairview and Chisago County Public Health. And special thanks to Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch for hosting the event and providing such a warm and genuine welcome to all.
Planning is continuing to be under way for the 2008 annual Relay, held at the Almelund Threshing Grounds on July 25. Now is the time for individuals, families, organizations, schools, religious groups, corporations and small businesses to build a team and join our fight to reduce the burden of cancer across America. Relay For Life can be the site of a company picnic or family gathering while supporting a great cause.

I want to applaud the survivors who participated in the opening lap and the survivor recognition last year at The Relay For Life of Chisago County. They are the reason we continue the fight because each year there can be more and more people living wonderful lives following a diagnosis of cancer.
A special thank you goes to the many Relay For Life volunteers who worked to make this event a success. The Relay For Life committee did an outstanding job of organizing the event. Many of those same volunteers have returned again this year, but we can always use more help to make the event run smoothly again this year.
We also appreciate the generosity of last year’s corporate sponsors. Relay For Life of Chisago County would not be possible without them. We hope we our sponsors will once again step to the plate and help us at our Chisago County Relay. If you know of another company that would like to be a corporate sponsor this year, please let us know as we can always use the support. It takes not only a village, but a county to battle against cancer.
