ehrn.jpgOn Friday, April 4, Colin Ehrnriter competed in the State Geography Bee held at Macalester College in St. Paul.

Colin, a 7th grader at North Branch Middle School, qualified for the state competition by winning the local school contest and then he had one of the top 100 scores on a test given to all school-bee winners throughout the state.

On Friday, Colin gave the correct answer to 6 of 8 preliminary questions, but only students who scored 8 correct went on to the next round of competition.

Colin represented North Branch Middle School very well, and he will try to qualify for state competition again next year as an 8th grader.

It is disappointing that when Boyd Suparat won at wrestling, many people wrote congratulations. When young ladies or young men though excel at academics, it is roundly greeted with silence. So Colin, congratulations, you did well statewide. Geography is increasingly important in a global society. It's also helpful to know in the event your GPS leads you to a cliff.

Anne,
First of all, congratulations to Colin on his acclomplishemnts! Secondly, I find it unnecessary for you Anne, to bring up Boyd's name when complaining about the lack of attention paid to academic accomplishments compared to athletics. The Pulitzer prize winner is never publicized as much as the Super Bowl MVP and that is a fact of life. Whether right or wrong, sports will always be recognized more than academics and that is not Boyd's fault. Please leave names out of you compaints.
