A 44-year-old Elk River man has died in connection with a head-on vehicle crash occurring at 11:46 a.m. Friday, April 11 on Highway 95 between Cambridge and North Branch.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, an eastbound 2005 Ford F150, driven by Jerome L. Stelter, 73, of North Branch, had lost control, fishtailed, over-corrected and veered into the westbound lane striking head on a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier.
Elk River resident Christopher R. Mitchell, who had been driving the Cavalier, initially received multiple trauma and was later pronounced dead at 1:10 p.m. at Fairview Lakes in Wyoming.
Stelter received minor injury and scratches.
Slushy conditions on Hwy. 95, west of Hornsby Drive NE, caused the Stelter truck to lose control, the State Patrol indicated.
Both drivers had been wearing seatbelts and airbags deployed. Assisting the State Patrol was the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office.
Mitchell was owner and CEO of 25-8 Marketing out of Elk River.
