In a disappointing start to the season, the North Branch softball team lost its first two games by a combined score of 28-0.
Right: Alix Lindholm lead-off double against Spring Lake Park was the Vikings’ only hit all game.
On April 8, their first game of the season, the girls lost to its North Suburban Conference rival Irondale Knights 8-0.
The Knights opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a leadoff walk and two, two-out singles to jump ahead 1-0.
Irondale added three more runs in the third with a walk and three singles.
They finished their damage in the sixth, scoring four runs on six singles and one North Branch error. Seven of the eight runs were earned.
Tiffany Anderson got the first start of the season on the mound for North Branch. She took the loss, going all six innings, giving up 12 hits, two walks and struck out two.
At the plate, the Vikings managed just four hits. Karissa Wilson went two for two with a walk, while Anderson went one for three with two stolen bases.
Senior Elise Holmstrom went one for three.
Spring Lake Park
Looking to avenge the loss to the Knights, the girls played the Spring Lake Park Panthers on April 9 and lost 20-0.
The Panthers never let up on their chokehold of the Vikings as they plated 20 runs on 10 hits.
Not helping the Vikings cause, the girls had four errors.
On the mound, Megan Aho took the loss, pitching two and 1/3 innings.
The lone bright spot for the girls was Alix Lindholm’s lead off double in the bottom of the third inning.
It was the Vikings only hit of the game.
