A Sunday afternoon (Jan. 20)
collision at the U.S. Hwy. 8 exit on I-35, just north of Forest Lake,
has left two area teenagers in serious condition at North Memorial
Hospital.
Ryan Locke, 17, North Branch, and Alexis Webber, 17,
Harris, were reported to have suffered head injuries when the car they
were traveling in was struck by a semi-truck.
According to the
Department of Public Safety, the driver, Webber, was traveling
northbound on I-35 and attempted to move left from the Hwy. 8 exit lane
into the through traffic lane.
Upon realizing that there was a
vehicle in that lane, Webber attempted to move back into the exit lane,
lost control of the vehicle, which spun out, and was struck broad side
by a semi-truck being driven by Heath J. Okerstrom, 35, of Forest Lake.
Okerstrom was not injured in the crash.
Alcohol does not look to have been a factor. Neither Locke or Webber were reported to have been wearing seat belts.
