St. John's Prep should have prepared a little more before they took the field with the Rush City Tigers on April 18.
Right: James Fregien heads back to the bench after scoring in the first inning of the Tigers’ first home game of the season against St. John’s Prep. The boys won the game 10-0.
After spending the first couple weeks of the season confined to the gym because of bad weather, the boys came out and impressed the home crowd with a 10-0 win against the Johnnies.
With some fresh faces on the diamond, the Tigers collected eights hits on the night. They finished off St. Johns Prep in the sixth inning when they poured in eight runs on five hits.
Sophomore Justin Bosman hit a bases loaded double in the sixth to drive in three runs. Senior Jared Orn also smacked a single to right field to knock in one run.
On the mound for Rush City, was Bosman who had a solid outing for the team. He threw four innings while giving up no runs, one hit and striking out three to pick up his first win of the season.
Junior Tom Waters relieved Bosman the last three innings and finished with three hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
At the plate, junior shortstop James Fregien had two hits, scored one run and RBI. Junior second baseman Derek Gorman also contributed three RBI's.
Head coach Bob Schlagel said he was pleased with what he saw from his players in their first outing of the season.
"Defensively, we made all the plays except one. Offensively, we started slowly but ended up with eight hits on the day," he said.
Up next, the Tigers play Ogilvie at home at 4:30 on April 24.
