North Branch head gymnastics coach Susie Toohey stepped down as head coach, effective immediately. She will not return next season.

Toohey was suspended from North Branch Activities Director Becky Leuer for not attending the Princeton Invitational on Jan. 19.

Toohey said she missed the event because of a family commitment but said she planned for her assistant coach, Shannon Smith, to cover for her.

When Leuer was informed Toohey missed the meet, she suspended her for one week.

“I had it covered so I didn’t think it would be a problem,” Toohey said.

From there, Toohey decided to step down.

It was Toohey’s second year as head coach for the Vikings and 20th overall.
