Fairview Lakes Health Services is pleased to announce the addition of a fourth general surgeon, Dr. Lan Raikar. Dr. Raikar received her medical degree from the University of Nebraska, Medical Center, in Omaha and completed her general surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester in 1991.
For one year she lived in California where she assisted her husband, who is a cardiac surgeon. But California, didn’t “feel like home,” she says, so the couple moved back to Minnesota when her husband’s parents moved to Eau Claire, Wis. The couple has three sons, ages 8, 9 and 12.
Prior to joining Fairview Lakes Medical Center, Dr. Raikar practiced part-time at St. Croix Regional Medical Center in Wisconsin.
At Fairview Lakes Medical Center, Dr. Raikar will perform a wide variety of surgical procedures and specializes in breast cancer surgery and vein surgery. “We have a new way of treating varicose veins now that is minimally invasive,” she explains.
Dr. Raikar believes in providing patients with as much information as possible to help them make informed decisions.
“I always believe that if you educate patients well, they can help you with decision-making and choice,” she explains. “When patients are involved in making decisions regarding their care, their outcomes are better.
“There’s not one right answer for every patient,” she adds. “Patients do have a choice within what is medically necessary for treatment of their disease. I believe in presenting everything to the patient and then helping the patient make an educated decision.”
Dr. Raikar sees patients in the Specialty Clinic at Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming.
