Goldean (Goldie) Augusta Laura Shermer Wiener was born July 1, 1920 to Edward and Laura (Hoppe) Shermer in Waverly, Minn. She grew up in the Pine City area where she attended a one-room school house. She was united in marriage to James (Bud) Wiener on April 22, 1937 in Carlton County, Minn., and the two raised six children. She retired at the age of 69 after many years of employment at several family-owned businesses, Olson’s Egg Produce, General Fabrication, and Plastech Research. Her hobbies included bingo, cooking, puzzles, gardening, and spending time with family.
Goldean was living at Golden Horizons Assisted Living in Pine City, Minn., when she became ill and was moved to Golden LivingCenter in Rush City, Minn., where she passed away on April 17, 2008 at the age of 87.
Goldie will be remembered as a devoted mother and a quiet loving Christian woman to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her ex-husband James (Bud) Vernon Wiener, son Roy Wiener, daughter Edith Wiener, her grandson Jamie Wiener, brothers Frank, George, Gordon and Lawrence Shermer, sisters Alice Pepin, Rose Gardner and Bernice Gardner.
She is survived by her six children; Barbara Jacobson of Pine City, Dwain Wiener and his wife Melanie of Rush City, Gerald Wiener and his wife Joyce of Rush City, Deb Olson of Cloquet, Douglas Wiener of Stillwater, and Laura and her husband Chuck Freese of Princeton. Also surviving Goldean is her sister LaVon Sowada of Minneapolis, 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Mary Shermer of Pine City and several nieces and nephews.
Rev. John Beck officiated at funeral services for Goldean; Monday April 21, 2008 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rush City. Music was provided by Dick Scheele and Diane Volk. Casket bearers included Rick Wiener, Kirtis Wiener, Bryan Freese, Jeffrey Wiener, Lanny Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Tim Teich, Dallas Nestvold and Derrick Nestvold with the interment in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Hinckley, Minn.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service of Rush City~Olson Chapel.
