NB baseball gets decisive win against Milaca PDF Print
Building on the momentum from their win against Duluth East, the North Branch baseball team defeated Milaca 7-1 on April 22.

Senior Tony Dahlberg got the start on the mound and earned the win.

“Tony pitched well.  I’m happy with his performance today,” head coach Steve Christensen said.

In the first inning, Dan Schoess singled, Dan Ginal walked and Tony Dahlberg singled to load the bases for Drew Lundquist who connected on a pitch for two-run RBI single. Later in the inning Dahlberg and Cole Willcoxen scored on an error to take a 3-0 lead.

In the second inning, the Viking offense continued its success. Chad Anderson lead off with a single, and followed it with a steal to second base. Schoess sacrificed Anderson to third base and senior Dan Ginal was hit by a pitch. Dahlberg scored on an RBI ground-out by Drew Lundquist, and Schoess and Anderson also scored in the inning, giving the Vikings a 5-0 lead.

Milaca managed to bring home a run in the sixth inning, but it was too little, too late.

Coach Steve Christensen liked the way the team looked to start, but noted some concerns about focus. "We played really well out of the gates. Once we had the lead, we didn’t have the same fire in our eyes. It seems they forgot that we had a 9-3 deficit, and overcame it after two outs in the seventh inning, just two days earlier," he said, adding, "Everyone still has something that they can work on to improve themselves and the team; starters and bench players included."
