NB girls track shines against Spring Lake Park PDF Print
By Patrick Tepoorten

The North Branch girls’ track team pulled out a one-point victory at the Spring Lake Park (SLP) triangular on April 22. They beat last year’s conference winner and second place finisher, SLP and Irondale respectively. SLP proved the tougher challenge, but the Vikings did get the win, 75-74.

A victory in the 4x800 relay (10:53.7) certainly didn’t hurt, nor did a clean sweep of the top four spots in the 100m high hurdles by Onalee Yousey, Catie Bettendorf, Laura Backus, and Stephanie Lippo.

Miranda Charley finished first in the 1600m run with a time of 5:36.2, with Kendra Norman and Briana Berthiaume rounding out the top three in the event.

Norman would go on to win the 800m run with a time of 2:30.7, with Berthiaume and Haley Hasleiet finishing second and third.

Other runs were good to the Vikings as well. The 4x400 relay team beat the field by over six seconds, and Shayna Gray won the 3200m run at 12:31.5. Bonnie Haslach finished just over a minute later in second place.

Other notables include  Bettendorf’s win in the 300m low hurdles, and Sydney Swanson and Haslach’s tie for first place with an eight-foot pole vault.

NB Boys

The Viking boys’ competed only against SLP that same day and fell by a score of 86-60. Brian Grand stood out with victories in the 110m high hurdles (16.0) and the 300m hurdles (43.0). Alex Sundly took third in the 110m and second in the 300m as well.

North Branch relay teams took first place in the 4x800m, the 4x200m, and the 4x400m relays, and Ryan Norman won the 800m run with a time of 2:09.7.

Michael Heidelberger won the 3200m run, followed just over 30 seconds later by Tyler Ertl, and Jared Grams took first place in the 200m dash with a time of 23.2.

Other notables include Joe Klun and Zach Good, who finished second and third in the 400m dash; Dillon Kost, who finished second in the triple jump, and Tony Ceroll, who finished third in the 200m dash.
