The Viking girls cut 18 strokes off their first score of the season at the second North Suburban Conference meet of the year. Wednesday, April 23 North Branch competed against the NSC field at Majestic Oaks Golf Club.
The warm and breezy conditions seemed to agree with the young Vikings, who recorded a 240 compared to their 258 at home a week earlier, placed eighth of nine at the Ham Lake course. Irondale, led by State Tournament veteran Katie Bolling’s 39, moved into a first place tie with Benilde-St. Margaret’s by shooting a 175.

The Vikings were led by sophomore Katie Foley’s 56. “Katie was a little disappointed with her score,” said Viking assistant Kelli Perrault. “But, she didn’t play poorly. Golf is just like that. Some days the putts fall, some days they don’t.”
Classmates Laurel Dresel (59) and Emily Juve (62) were next for the Vikings. “Laurel hit a lot of good shots today and continues to show improvement,” continued Perrault. “Emily recovered nicely from her first conference outing where she started with a couple of confidence-threatening holes. She struggled on a pair of holes today, but she managed to keep them in single digits.” Eighth-grader Cassedy Coleman made her varsity debut with a 63. “She was pretty excited about how she played. Hopefully, that will encourage her,” the coach said.
The Vikings begin the month of May against Chisago Lakes Baptist and Pine City at North Branch May 1 at 3:45 before traveling to Theodore Wirth Park in Golden Valley for an NSC meet Friday, May 2.
